Nim & Hans - Tai: a Woven Culture

I avsnitt 4 (english below & start at 3 min) har jag äran att få intervjua textilsamlaren Napajaree “Nim” Suanduenchai från Bangkok och den belgiske fotografen Hans Roel. I april 2023 lanserades deras bok “Tai: a woven culture” dvs Tai, en vävd kultur som är en stor inbunden konstbok på 348 sidor om Tai-kulturen, dvs den etniska bakgrunden för över 80% av Thailands invånare. Det har tagit mer än 20 år för dem att göra boken då de rest runt i Thailand och i grannländer för att leta, spela in och dokumentera människorna som tillverkat dessa unika textilier. Sen blir jag stolt över att fotografen Hans valde ett svenskt ledande företag från Mölnlycke by Wind Group för att trycka boken som endast finns i 3000 exemplar.

In episode 4 (english interview start at 3 min) I have the honor to interview textile collector Napajaree "Nim" Suanduenchai from Bangkok and belgian photographer Hans Roel. In April 2023, their book Tai: a woven culture was released. It's a large beautiful bound art book of 348 pages about the Tai culture, i.e. the ethnic background of over 80% of Thailand's inhabitants. It has taken more than 20 years for them to make the book as they traveled around Thailand and neighboring countries to find, record and document the people who made these unique textiles. I'm also proud that the photographer Hans chose a leading Swedish company from Mölnlycke by Wind Group to print the book, which is only available in 3000 copies.

In this episode you will hear about their background, unique journey and focus on the fact that fashion and textiles are also a cultural expression. In doing so, I want to try to rebuild the value of textiles and the craftsmanship behind them in a time when price hunting, fast fashion and overproduction are global challenges.
